We've got a storage building, Rainbow Playground and a sandbox in our backyard but I hardly think its unusual. Entertaining, yes unusual, probably not.

    Love and Prayers,

have you heard the county song about the combine driver?

    http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/morgan-craig/international-harvester-18379.html

i'm sure you'd have a new appreciation for it after living in farm country. it makes me laugh every time i hear it!

well, nothing as quirky as a combine here. If you saw that where I live... well, you'd be wondering if you were dreaming.

In our yard there is a chook pen, a swimming pool, a sandpit, a trampoline, a swing set and two slippery dips. None of these are weird but we are totally jammed in & there is hardly space to sit!!!!!

    You win!!

Not at the moment, but my son would be in absolute heaven if there was a combine in our yard!
  • Goldylocks · 4 months ago
In our front yard? No, nothing unusual. But across the street is a dairy farm, so we get to see lots of fun things depending on what the crop is that year. This year it was Hay, so lots of BIG machines! Can't wait until the boys really know what's going on. They will love it!
  • InDeeds · 4 months ago
We have a "whirl-a-feed" in our front yard...or more accurately our side yard. By the silos. Its possibly my favorite farm machine...mostly cause of its name. Its used to fill the silos by shooting the feed and such up to the top of the silo.

I have a dirty, crunchy Spiderman slip and slide draped over a soccer goal in the back yard. Definitely not as cool as you combine!! :-)
  • purejoy · 4 months ago
our lawn has been covered all summer long with college aged boys playing wiffle ball. cars parked up and down our little street while rap music (not my favorite, but apparently the athletes go for this) blares out of our garage windows. girls sit on blankets, cheering for the guys, and water bottles litter the sidelines.
when it's over, the bases are put away, the bottles retrieved (and recycled!!) the street returns to its quiet suburbia lifestyle.
all we have left are the worn base areas, the painted "W" fading in the infield, and the backstop, perched in front of the landscaped mailbox area. one day when we prune back our hedges, we'll find an errant wiffleball.

I found a plastic pink elephant cut out in my yard the other day... but I brought it in the house.
  • SRE · 4 months ago
No, but we DO have an excavator in the back yard!

I grew up with two clawfoot bathtubs in our front yard. My Mom used them for planters, then modified goldfish tanks, then dog waterers, now they are just landmarks ("Yes, it's the house with the bathtubs in the front yard"). They each have their own concrete slab.
  • Amy - AKA - TigerMommie · 4 months ago
Nope...no combine in the front yard...However, while we were in WI, TigerBoy got to ride in a New Holland combine while harvesting wheat.....and also got to sit inside a brand new one! (still had plastic on the seats, that's how new it was....)....

As for something strange in the yard.....hmmmm...not much of a yard here, so there's not much there.....but you will find an assortment of TigerBoy toys!

A few Christmas' ago, I was going over to my mom's house (She lives about 15 min away, so I go over there a lot). I pulled up and I couldn't believe what I saw, it was a PORTA POTTY! Yes, one of the nice(if you can call it that) big green ones right there on her sidewalk going to the porch! If you think thst's normal, IT'S NOT... she lives in a very nice neighborhood which made it real embarrassing for her!

There was construction going on in the backyard(they were building a sunroom/deck addition), and they put a porta potty in front for the workers. It was during Christmas time, so we debated putting Christmas lights on it for fun! It was quite humorous for her three grown children to come over to!

Last night, a Sonoran desert toad sat by our front door. After taking pictures and showing the kids we did some research and learned that this type of toad emits hormones that are poisonous to dogs! Thank goodness he was in the front yard!

I have a bmx/skate ramp in my front yard, but that's not unusual if you know my husband...

    Something like this:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/99/Bombardier_J5_Muskeg_Tractor.jpg

But it's not all that nice & shiny. Ours is REALLY old & still works. It's used to get lumber out of the woods.

Love all the pictures and stories from the farm. Considering I'm "that girl" who read all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books growing up and longed to live back in the pioneer days... it touches a chord in my heart, for sure! :) Blessings on your family.
  • New England Girl · 4 months ago
Nope. Nothing unusual in our yard. :) And even if there was, nothing that can compete with yours! :)
  • Leah · 4 months ago
My neighbors home and my home share a fence. The took an aluminum ladder and screwed it to the top of the fence horizontally so it sticks up like 3 feet and is at least 6 feet long. They said it was for privacy but of course you can see right through the fence.

A Zedonk! yep- helf zebra and half donkey. Her name is Dolly.

We also have a huge, REAL caboose!
  • Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com · 4 months ago
Nothing interesting right now, just a bunch of orange trees (we live on a small grove) and some gopher holes.

But the neighbors have an excavator sitting on their lawn, does that count?

My husband grew up in a small town in Washington state. Every year we attend the annual combine demolition derby. There is nothing funnier than watching 5 combines out there trying to smash into each other. Now that's entertainment.
  • GAMZu · 4 months ago
This morning I had nothing to add to this discussion besides for cat poop. Yep, we have a hermit dude on our block who feeds all the cats in the neighborhood and they graciously keep his driveway clean by eliminating in everyone else's yards.
So my kids can't even play in the 4x6 teeny city yard we have.

But today when we were out, we saw a toy Jeep that really rides just standing in middle of a sidewalk, not in front of any property. It was broken. The kids sat in it for a while and we went on. On our way back, several hours later, it was still there, just where we left it. They played a little longer in it and then we decided to take it home! It doesn't work, but it's fun just to sit and pretend in it.

So now that's what is in our front yard!

We have several Drill Rigs in our front yard :)anyone else have one of those?
  • Cathy · 4 months ago
We had a big yellow marquis sign at the end of our drive way. First it was brought her after G sold his business. Then it moved to the road to sell the camper. Then it wished the kids a happy birthday and there were a few other comments placed there for a whole 5.5 minutes until the kids decided that I would kill them and they took them down (on their own) and then it sat there trying to sell the darn sign (which it did).. so glad that eyesore is gone. We used to give directions to our house and say.. the drive with the big yellow sign by the road. No one ever got lost.

  • Crazy Daisy · 4 months ago
I grew up with a combine, as well as other large pieces of machinery in the front yard. Now, nothing too strange.
  • angie · 4 months ago
I wish I had pictures of the crazy foot cleats that the crew of men wore who re-plastered our pool. Doesn't compare to what's in YOUR yard though. :)
  • Becca from Our Crazy Boys · 4 months ago
Found a 3 1/2 foot snake up in a tree in our front yard yesterday... I would rather have the combine :-)
  • mrs boo radley · 4 months ago
We have two whiskey barrels full of blueberry plants in our front yard.

And...right after I read this post this morning...my brother sent me a text of the chopper and chopper box and tractor he was on--he was helping on my parents' farm today.
  • BoufMom9 · 4 months ago
Nope. Don't have one of those in the yard, but we do have about 35 scooters in the front driveway that my boys kep forgetting to put away.....
  • Anonymous · 4 months ago
did your grandparents buy that?! How do farmers afford that? There was one at our state fair (in Indiana) and the combine was priced at 400,000!!! I bet your boys love the farm, that would be neat!
  • John, Jessica and Emma · 4 months ago
We have TWO HUGE GREEN Dumpsters in our driveway!! Im talking like you could stand in them and not be seen. They can hold 5-7 TONS!! They will soon be filed with the remnants of our burnt home :( But when they are we will have an almost brand new house!!
  • Raina · 4 months ago
We live in a cluster neighborhood, so not much yard to speak of. Unless you consider your neighbor's yard IN your yard unusual. =)
  • basebell6 · 4 months ago
i would do ANYTHING to have that combine in my yard!! (i have a john deere ROOM in my house!). awesomeness. i do know tahat combine costs more than my house times 4!! LOL.

what i have unusual: a 1300 lb pumpkin!! (so i need some more john deere horsepower than i currently own to move that thing come october)
  • Erin · 4 months ago
I wouldnt say it is in my yard but it is where we park our other car because we dont have a spot in our driveway and live on a cut thru road... so it is busy...kmmxzmxxzsa
but we have a huge lot which had an old hotel on it which was destroyed while we lived here... now, they park trailers and boats and campers over there. We cant see it but caddy corner to our house is a cemetery which we can sometimes hear if someone has a graveside service. we CAN HEAR the music or what not... in the winter we can see it better because of the lack of foliage... and if there was not another lot full of trailers etc. oh, and we can see the child development center ....

The view from my bedroom is a huge chicken plant next door - IMBA, the best chicken in Bolivia!!! Hey, their guards have been really helpful when we have security/safety issues at the Baby Home, so I'll advertise for them even if I AM vegetarian. =)

We have nothing astonishing or unusual in our boring suburban yard. The expected reigns here: squirrels, a Little Tykes play structure and toddler cars, patio furniture, a BBQ, more dog poo than I am comfortable with...
  • Anonymous · 4 months ago
We have a life sized fiber glass steer. His name is Luigi and he looked pretty cool when we lived out in the country. Now we live at the beach and my kids are humiliated that we have a steer in our yard. More the reason to love him!
    blessings, Lori

How about a HUGE pile of class 5 gravel dumped there by the contractors who are putting in the new city sewer system? Annoying! You contacted me a few months ago about being featured on your blog. At the time I was 9 months along with number 6. Now baby is 3 months old and everything is going great and I would love to be featured. (Only I lost your convo from etsy that you sent me) Contact me at redwagonkids.etsy.com if it would be a possibility. Thanks!!
